Introduction to Investing

December 1, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm PST

On Friday, December 1st, financial expert, Eddie Torres, continues his four part workshop series to cover your whole financial life, both personal and business, with a topic that is scary to many of us…investing. We know we need to but so often we don’t save as early or as often as we should. Some of us never get around to investing which can really put us in to a bind in our elder years. Eddie will help us start the investing process as painless as possible and get you looking forward to putting that next dollar away for tomorrow! To register, please visit ntv.bz/money
This webinar series will consist of four webinars. When you register for one webinar, you will be registered for the other three as well. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. The webinars will be delivered over Zoom.
Here are the webinars in the series:
• The Purpose of Budgeting and Saving, November 3rd
By keeping tabs on your expenses and giving yourself a plan to follow, budgeting makes it easier to meet your financial goals. Savings, meanwhile, are important because living paycheck to paycheck isn’t viable in the long-term. Learn the best high-tech and low-tech strategies and tools for managing your money. Learn how much to save, which apps to use, which debts to focus on, how well you’re doing for your age.

• Credit Management: Learn the five C’s of Credit and How Scores Are Calculated, November 17th
The five Cs of credit are important because lenders use these factors to determine whether to approve you for a financial product. Lenders also use these five Cs—character, capacity, capital, collateral, and conditions—to set your loan rates and loan terms. FICO Scores are calculated using many different pieces of credit data in your credit report. This data is grouped into five categories: payment history (35%), amounts owed (30%), length of credit history (15%), new credit (10%) and credit mix (10%).

â–º OUR PRESENTER IS EDDIE TORRES â—„
Eddie Torres is the owner of Eduardo Torres Consulting and is the Director of Finance and Operations at El Sereno Community Land Trust. He is currently a professor at LA Trade Tech College in the Community Planning & Economic Development Department, teaching Community Organizing and Non-Profit Management since 2010. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from San Diego State University.
Eddie found his passion for financial literacy in his late twenties. Like many of us, he did not fully understand how credit scores are calculated, how to budget, or how to save and invest. He spoke to a financial advisor, and she opened up a world he had no idea existed. This was the moment he realized that he did not have to live in a world where he had no control over his financial freedom, he had a choice.
Eddie chose to educate himself on as many concepts around financial literacy as possible. He became so interested he continued to build off the concepts his financial advisor taught him and spent a lot of time reading articles and became obsessed with understanding complex financial concepts. Eddie currently provides financial literacy and non-profit management consulting services to various organizations in Los Angeles, California.
