Entrepreneur Success Story: Heather Gomez

5:30 pm Pacific, 6:30 pm Mountain, 7:30 pm Central, 8:30 pm Eastern
The presentation will be presented on Zoom.
Heather is an enrolled member of the Jicarilla Apache Nation and lives on the reservation in Dulce, New Mexico. Heather had the idea to rent out a tipi a few years ago and was in search of land to buy off the reservation. Things fell through and she never purchased any property. A year later she met her current partner who casually mentioned he owned a tipi. The couple eventually listed the tipi on Airbnb in Dulce.
Dulce is known for its history of UFOs and undercover government operations. The tipi is located with a perfect view of Archuleta Mesa, known as the controversial Dulce UFO Underground Base. The base has been featured on shows like UFO Hunters and Ancient Aliens on the History Channel. Dulce is also the official headquarters of the Jicarilla Apache Nation and is rich in Native American culture.
Heather is currently taking classes for a professional certificate in Cultural Heritage Tourism in association with American Indian Native Alaskan Tourism (AINTA) and George Washington University. Heather is a Tribal Liaison for the NM Entrepreneurial Program with Rainforest Innovations at the University of New Mexico (UNM). She plans on expanding her tipi business with Airbnb next spring/summer on the Jicarilla Apache reservation.
