SUMMARY:Exhibiting Your Art: How to Approach Galleries\, Museums\, and Cultural Centers
DESCRIPTION:CANCELLED\nDoing new stuff is scary.  Trying to break in to the art world when there are so many great  artists is hard.  Even though you have been producing art that everybody loves\, you’re not sure if it’s right for a museum.  Would a gallery take a chance on me? \nMelissa Melero a fine artist specializing in mixed media has not only been exhibiting at galleries and museums in Nevada\, California and throughout the US\, but she has been curating exhibits of Native artists in the Great Basin region for the last decade.  She has the tips and tricks that will help you not only be prepared when you are ready to exhibit but also how to know where’s best for you and how to approach that best place.  In this workshop you will learn how to: \n\nFind the right space for your art\nNetwork in the community to find a way in\nPrepare and safely ship your artwork to the museum or gallery for exhibition\nPrice your work to increase the likelihood it sells\nAnd the do’s and don’ts of the whole exhibition experience\n\n\n\n\nThe IDRS Acorn Project\, in partnership with Great Basin Native Artists\, and the Owens Valley Paiute-Shoshone Cultural Center\, will present Exhibiting Your Art: How to Approach Galleries\, Museums\, and Cultural Centers on Wednesday\, October 5th\, 2022 from 10 am to 3 pm.  The workshop will be located at the Owens Valley Paiute-Shoshone Cultural Center at 2300 W. She is a Northern Paiute enrolled with the Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe with ties to Fort Bidwell Paiute\, California. Melissa holds a BFA from the Institute of American Indian Arts\, Santa Fe\, NM and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Fine Arts from Portland State University\, Portland\, OR. \nHer works are a part of the permanent collections of the Autry Museum\, Los Angeles\, CA; IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts\, Santa Fe\, NM; Lilley Museum\, University of Nevada; Nevada Museum of Art\, Reno\, NV and School for Advanced Research (IARC)\, Santa Fe\, NM. \nShe is currently exhibiting regionally and nationally as an individual artist and with the GBNA art collective.
