SUMMARY:Why Trade Jobs Are Great For Entrepreneurs
DESCRIPTION:Why Trade Jobs Are Great For Entrepreneurs\nHosted by Uni Britt\nFriday\, April 4th\, 2025\n10 am PST / 11 am MST / 12 pm CST / 1 pm EST\nThis will be a webinar presented on Zoom\n\n\n\n\n\nThink the skilled trades aren’t for you? Think again. The trades can open doors to a rewarding\, hands-on career—and for Uni Britt\, it led to a 30+ year journey as an Ironworker and Elevator Constructor. Join us for an inspiring conversation with Uni as she shares how she broke barriers\, built a legacy\, and why she believes more Native people should explore careers in the skilled trades. To register\, please visit ntv.bz/tradejobs\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nHave you ever considered a job in the skilled trade industry? Could you be a plumber\, an ironworker\, an electrician or work in the heating and air business? Join IDRS for a conversation with Uni Britt and learn how she began working in the ironwork industry over 30 years ago and why she encourages tribal members to consider working in the skilled trade industries. Uni is an enrolled member of Duck Valley Indian reservation\, located about one hundred miles north of Elko\, NV.\n\n\n\n\n\nUni joined the trades after high school because she did not know how to pay for college. She became an ironworker\, first with local 118 Reno and then with local 377 San Francisco after finishing her apprenticeship program.\n\n\nNext\, Uni became a member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors local 8 in San Francisco where she would build her career for the next 30 years. After extensive travels throughout United States\, Uni decided it was time to finally come home to the Rez and relax.\n\n\n\nAfter realizing retirement is not what it is cracked up to be\, she decided to embark on something that she always wanted to try\, teaching technical trades. Being a member of 377 and a member of local 8 I have been given an opportunity to gain experience with many different skills from welding\, electrical\, blueprints\, programing\, hydraulics\, carpentry\, etc. The elevator trade combined multiple trades into one.\n\n\nJoin IDRS as we host Uni to have a conversation regarding why the trades are so important in Indian country and the lessons she has learned as a female Native American working in the trades for over 30 years.\n\n\n\nThis workshop are made possible through support from the Small Business Administration\, USDA Rural Development\, the California Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development\, and the Elevate Initiative.\n\n\n\n\n\n	Related
