The California Microbusiness COVID-19 Relief Grant Program is administered by the California Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA). The Program provides competitive micro grants of $2,500 to eligible microbusinesses impacted by COVID-19 and the related health and safety restrictions. Amounts available for each County were based on population and determined by the latest population estimates from the California Department of Finance. The role of grantmaking entities was granted to County government agencies or a consortium of nonprofits through two rounds of applications.
This program will be implemented by County organizations or nonprofits working on their behalf. For application details and updates specific to the program available in your county, please contact the organizations listed below. Also, please note, even though we have listed application deadlines for several counties, many of the counties are running their grants on a first-come, first-serve basis. All grant funding may be given out prior to the application deadline. Please apply as soon as possible.
Here are the general requirements of the grant:
- Applicants must have been in business prior to 12/31/2019
- Must have had less than 5 full-time equivalent employees in 2019 and 2020
- Must have less than $50,000 (and greater than $1,000) in gross income in 2019
- Must not have received the California COVID-19 Small Business Relief Grant
- Your business will have to be located in the county that you apply
- Business must be operating operating or have a plan to reopen
- Business must have been significantly impacted by COVID-19
- Business must be the owner’s primary means of income
These are also some questions you might have to address:
- Are independent contractors also counted as employees?
- What documentation will you need? Many of the counties are requiring documentation but they are very flexible. They are allowing you to provide a business license, a bank statement with your business name, or even third-party verification.
Below is the current list of counties that have been approved by the State. Counties can generally set their own deadline and application requirements and so expect each county to be a little different. Also, even though all these counties were selected, not all of them have opened or even finalized their application process. We’re trying to get information from each of the counties and we will update this page as we get more information or as additional counties are added to the program. If your county is not currently listed, please check back for future updates.
