SUMMARY:Why Trade Jobs Are Great For Entrepreneurs
DESCRIPTION:Why Trade Jobs Are Great For Entrepreneurs\nHosted by Uni Britt\nFriday\, April 4th\, 2025\n10 am PST / 11 am MST / 12 pm CST / 1 pm EST\nThis will be a webinar presented on Zoom\n\n\n\n\n\nThink the skilled trades aren’t for you? Think again. The trades can open doors to a rewarding\, hands-on career—and for Uni Britt\, it led to a 30+ year journey as an Ironworker and Elevator Constructor. Join us for an inspiring conversation with Uni as she shares how she broke barriers\, built a legacy\, and why she believes more Native people should explore careers in the skilled trades. To register\, please visit ntv.bz/tradejobs\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nHave you ever considered a job in the skilled trade industry? Could you be a plumber\, an ironworker\, an electrician or work in the heating and air business? Join IDRS for a conversation with Uni Britt and learn how she began working in the ironwork industry over 30 years ago and why she encourages tribal members to consider working in the skilled trade industries. Uni is an enrolled member of Duck Valley Indian reservation\, located about one hundred miles north of Elko\, NV.\n\n\n\n\n\nUni joined the trades after high school because she did not know how to pay for college. She became an ironworker\, first with local 118 Reno and then with local 377 San Francisco after finishing her apprenticeship program.\n\n\nNext\, Uni became a member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors local 8 in San Francisco where she would build her career for the next 30 years. After extensive travels throughout United States\, Uni decided it was time to finally come home to the Rez and relax.\n\n\n\nAfter realizing retirement is not what it is cracked up to be\, she decided to embark on something that she always wanted to try\, teaching technical trades. Being a member of 377 and a member of local 8 I have been given an opportunity to gain experience with many different skills from welding\, electrical\, blueprints\, programing\, hydraulics\, carpentry\, etc. The elevator trade combined multiple trades into one.\n\n\nJoin IDRS as we host Uni to have a conversation regarding why the trades are so important in Indian country and the lessons she has learned as a female Native American working in the trades for over 30 years.\n\n\n\nThis workshop are made possible through support from the Small Business Administration\, USDA Rural Development\, the California Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development\, and the Elevate Initiative.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Investing
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, December 1st\, financial expert\, Eddie Torres\, continues his four part workshop series to cover your whole financial life\, both personal and business\, with a topic that is scary to many of us…investing. We know we need to but so often we don’t save as early or as often as we should. Some of us never get around to investing which can really put us in to a bind in our elder years. Eddie will help us start the investing process as painless as possible and get you looking forward to putting that next dollar away for tomorrow! To register\, please visit ntv.bz/money\n\n\n\nThis webinar series will consist of four webinars. When you register for one webinar\, you will be registered for the other three as well. After registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. The webinars will be delivered over Zoom.\n\n\n\n\n\nHere are the webinars in the series:\n\n\n\n• The Purpose of Budgeting and Saving\, November 3rd\n\nBy keeping tabs on your expenses and giving yourself a plan to follow\, budgeting makes it easier to meet your financial goals. Savings\, meanwhile\, are important because living paycheck to paycheck isn’t viable in the long-term. Learn the best high-tech and low-tech strategies and tools for managing your money. Learn how much to save\, which apps to use\, which debts to focus on\, how well you’re doing for your age.\n\n\n\nFor the recording of Webinar #1\, please visit: ntv.bz/money_rec_1\n\n\n\n• Credit Management: Learn the five C’s of Credit and How Scores Are Calculated\, November 17th\n\n\n\nThe five Cs of credit are important because lenders use these factors to determine whether to approve you for a financial product. Lenders also use these five Cs—character\, capacity\, capital\, collateral\, and conditions—to set your loan rates and loan terms. FICO Scores are calculated using many different pieces of credit data in your credit report. This data is grouped into five categories: payment history (35%)\, amounts owed (30%)\, length of credit history (15%)\, new credit (10%) and credit mix (10%).\n\n\n\nFor the recording of Webinar #2\, please visit: ntv.bz/money_rec_2\n\n\n\n• Introduction to Investing\, December 1st\n\n\n\nThe meaning of investment is putting your money into an asset that can grow in value or produce income or both. Learn the four most common entry points into the stock market. Learn the benefits of compound interest.\n\n\n\n• Tax Preparation 101 Workshop\, December 8th\n\n\n\nThis workshop is intended to inform participants what they need to file your annual income or business taxes. This educational workshop will help you become aware of the new requirements and free on-line and in-person resources available to file your personal or business taxes. The workshop will cover the following topics and will be conducted virtually via zoom. What do you need to file your taxes? Who has to file taxes? New Changes to tax filing\, 101 on Schedule C filing\, How do you file online & in-person for free?\n\n\n\n► OUR PRESENTER IS EDDIE TORRES ◄\n\n\n\nEddie Torres is the owner of Eduardo Torres Consulting and is the Director of Finance and Operations at El Sereno Community Land Trust. He is currently a professor at LA Trade Tech College in the Community Planning & Economic Development Department\, teaching Community Organizing and Non-Profit Management since 2010. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from San Diego State University.\n\n\n\nEddie found his passion for financial literacy in his late twenties. Like many of us\, he did not fully understand how credit scores are calculated\, how to budget\, or how to save and invest. He spoke to a financial advisor\, and she opened up a world he had no idea existed. This was the moment he realized that he did not have to live in a world where he had no control over his financial freedom\, he had a choice.\n\n\n\nEddie chose to educate himself on as many concepts around financial literacy as possible. He became so interested he continued to build off the concepts his financial advisor taught him and spent a lot of time reading articles and became obsessed with understanding complex financial concepts. Eddie currently provides financial literacy and non-profit management consulting services to various organizations in Los Angeles\, California.
